Halle Bailey Reflects On Becoming Disney's First Live Action Black Princess For 'The Little Mermaid'

Halle Bailey is opening up about the importance of playing Ariel in the upcoming live adaptation of The Little Mermaid.

In a cover story with Variety, the 22-year-old actress revealed the pressure she feels

She’s been under over the past few years since being cast as Ariel, and as Disney’s first live-action Black princess.

Halle went on, saying that she’s had to reflect on the importance of media representation after filming the movie.

Halle also spoke of the support system around her, as she faced a lot of backlash when she was first cast.

The Little Mermaid is set to hit theatres in May 2023.
