Dakota Johnson says she signed up for a ‘very different’ ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ movie

It seems Christian Grey wasn’t the only dominant force in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” franchise.

The 2015 film followed the controlling businessman, portrayed by Jamie Dornan, and his BDSM relationship with Anastasia Steele, played by relative newcomer Dakota Johnson.

The erotic drama became a pop-culture phenomenon, spawned two follow-up movies and helped launch Johnson into Hollywood stardom.

More than seven years after the franchise’s first installment, Johnson opened up to Vanity Fair about the “so, so weird” filming process with E.L. James.

The “Cha Cha Real Smooth” actor said she faced a number of behind-the-scenes challenges from conflicting feedback from the studio and directors.

Johnson told Vanity Fair how James’ vision for the films included “incredibly cheesy” inner monologues that “wouldn’t work to say out loud” onscreen.
