Alicia Vikander's 'Tomb Raider 2' Officially Not Happening
Alicia Vikander will not be back as Lara Croft.
The Oscar-winning actress starred in the 2018 reboot Tomb Raider and she was slated to appear in a Misha Green-directed sequel, but now it’s no longer happening.
MGM has lost the rights to the project and a bidding war has begun for a new studio to obtain the rights to the Tomb Raider franchise.
MGM had until May 2022 to greenlight a sequel to Tomb Raider or the studio would lose the rights. The studio let the window pass and now other studios are bidding to win the rights.

Angelina Jolie starred in the original films back in 2001 and 2003, which grossed $432 million worldwide. Alicia‘s reboot in 2018 grossed $275 million worldwide.
