England Vs New Zealand: The most awaited test match series between England and New Zealand started on 2nd June 2021 at the “Home of Cricket” that is “Lords”. This series was to cover up all the expenses that the England Cricket Board lost due to the pandemic. It won’t be considered in the World Test Championship 2023. It will be a two-match series ending on 14th June. After that, the WTC final is scheduled between India and New Zealand. For India, it will be a long tour. Firstly the WTC final and then a 5 match test series against England.
Both the teams had some debutants. Devon Conway for New Zealand whereas Ollie Robinson and James Bracey made their debut for England. New Zealand won the toss and chose to bat first. The debutant Devon Conway and Tom Latham started the innings positively and cautiously. Both handled the swing of Broad and Anderson quite well. But when the team’s score was 58, the debutant Robinson took his first test match wicket as Tom Latham departed.
After that Conway was joined by his captain and currently the Number 1 Batsman in Test Ranking, Kane Williamson. Both looked set and with no more damage to the side, it was declared Lunch on the first day. But when the play resumed, in the first over of Anderson, Williamson chopped back onto his stumps to give Anderson his first wicket of the match.
Ross Taylor came and departed as the debutant Robinson got his second wicket. After that both Conway and Nicholls played cautiously and took their team to 144-3 at the end of the second session. The last session of the day looks promising with Conway batting well. Let’s see whether he joins an elite list of having a maiden century on test debut or not!
