He was one of the best bassists and was listed in Rolling Stone’s 50 Greatest Bassists of All Time. The duo of Sly and Robbie was known as The Riddim Twins and got nominated for Grammy 11 times.

Robbie Shakespeare Career

The talented musician, whose real name was Robert Warren Dale Shakespeare was born on September 27 in 1953. Robbie was familiar with music since childhood as he grew up in a family with musical background. The first musical instrument Robbie was an acoustic guitar and was one of the members in Sly and Robbie.

Robbie was part of some ot her collaborations such as The Revolutionaries and The Aggrovators. The rhythm and production by the duo, Sly and Robbie turned to be one of the most influential music artists in the history of reggae. Robbie Shakespeare worked with several reggae artists as well such as Peter Tosh, U-Roy, Augustus Pablo, and many others.

He met drummer Sly Dunbar while he was part of The Revolutionaries. Robbie took bass lessons from Aston Francis Barrett as grew up listening to him near his home. The duo of Sly and Robbie also owned a music production company called Taxi Records
