Kristen Stewart, the star of “Love Lies Bleeding,” has made a bold declaration about her directorial debut. She has stated that her first film as a director will be “hard to watch,” a statement that comes after her vow in January to refrain from acting until she could secure funding for her adaptation of “The Chronology of Water.”

Fans of the actor-turned-director can now look forward to her upcoming rendition of Lidia Yuknavitch’s 2011 queer memoir. The film, which is finally coming to fruition, is set to be shot in Latvia, Europe, as a student-style piece.

In a recent interview with Net-a-Porter, Kristen Stewart explained her need for a “radical detachment” from her established identity as an actor. “I am not a director yet. I need to make a student film. I can’t do that [in the US],” she said.

Yuknavitch’s memoir delves into themes of gender, violence, sexuality, family, addiction, self-destruction, and survival. Kristen Stewart expressed concern that audiences might not want to see these topics unfold on screen.

She told the outlet, “My movie is about incest and periods and a woman violently repossessing her voice and body, and it is, at times, hard to watch… but it’s gonna be a f**king thrill ride. And I think that’s commercial, but I don’t think that I have any gauge on what that means.”

Kristen Stewart, who has recently been slated for an upcoming vampire movie alongside Oscar Isaac, previously told Variety, “I’m going to make this movie before I ever work for someone else. Yeah, I will quit the fking business. I won’t make a-fking-nother movie until I make this movie. I will tell you that, for sure. I think that will get things going.”

She further emphasized her commitment to her directorial debut, stating that she “really won’t” appear in another movie until her film is made.

While more details for “The Chronology of Water” are yet to be revealed, Stewart mentioned in the interview that they were in the “soft prep” phase of production.

In conclusion, Kristen Stewart’s transition from actor to director marks a significant shift in her career. Her determination to bring “The Chronology of Water” to the screen, despite its challenging themes, demonstrates her commitment to telling stories that push boundaries and provoke thought. As she embarks on this new journey, audiences will undoubtedly be watching closely to see how this bold venture unfolds.
