In a statement posted to Facebook at the time, the Day 'n' Nite musician said he had been experiencing "depression and suicidal urges" and felt like he was "living a lie" while he was "not at peace"

In a new interview, Cudi - real name Scott Mecudi – explained that ‘everything was f**ked’ after he suffered a stroke that took him to the hospital

After months of physical rehabilitation, Cudi auditioned for the Broadway play Lobby Hero the following year, reading with Supervillain star Michael Cera

 Cudi added he was ‘happy’ that he ‘proved’ to himself that he was capable of taking on the challenge, despite another actor eventually being chosen for the role

He said ‘I proved to myself that I could do it. I needed that at the time,’ and ‘I was happy. Like, damn, my brain is still strong. I didn’t lose something in that s**t that happened.’
